Recommends it for: those wanting easily read, yet fairly erudite, books on raising children; those liking Dr. Phil
SEPTEMBER 2015: Still a good book doing what it aims at doing.

AUGUST 2011: At present that our daughter is two years old I thought I'd better re-read this again, as she is at present at the historic period where it is relevant;-) Volition be interesting if I call back the same this time around.

2008:
By the end of the yr we're going to have a child, so I thought I better kickoff learning something... I am barely halfway into the volume, merely so far, then proficient. Yes, information technology is fairly light reading--but sometimes that's a good affair;-) Light

Yes, it is fairly light reading--only sometimes that's a good matter;-) Light doesn't always entail you can't learn a thing or two (or ten or fifty, hehe)...

More than later, when I've read it from cover to embrace...

Afterward, JUNE 24:

Definitely a adept read. It does what information technology is supposed to do: Requite some good pointers what to take into consideration--and, importantly, do and non-do--when the time comes to raise children and have a family. Information technology is enervating for the parents! All told in a straight, hands understood language and in a mode that makes sense.

I also liked that he is neither condencending nor judgmental beyond the obvious. And he is very open to the fact that some people may not buy into all of information technology, yet hopefully it can nonetheless inspire and heighten sensation.

And that it did. So I can simply recommend it:-)

What a schmuck (me--for even picking this volume up for free). It's clearly written to capitalize on his new notoriety and is largely repetitive soapboxing of airs interspersed with DUH! common sense. Some narrow-sighted 'quizes' are as well included. He had a couple of points that were good reminders for me, but I should've read them from a parenting book whose philosophy I'm behind. Suck it, Dr. Phil. Dr. Phil words things the fashion I wish I could, know what I hateful? On his show, he knows merely how to read two people barking at each other and just how to help them. It's unrealistic to assume every guest swallows his 30-2d life-changing advice at the very end and walks abroad hugging relatives and chasing butterflies, but I still like hearing him out.

It speaks well to Dr. Phil's character that he did this because he afterward advised his readers with hurtful parents or ex-spouses to not speak ill of them in front of the kids.

Wisely said, md.

Information technology actually did accept me a year and a one-half to end this one...I wish I'd stuck with it because the tools he describes in the 2nd half of the book are truthful gems. Lots of exersizes & cess solutions for specific bug & the steps yous need to take. How we as parents are our childrens models & the fact that most of u.s. are failing at this. Mostly the book has a lot of good sound advice, some I did disagree with. Like for example if the parents are nifty the child will exist too.

There was definitely some good info in hither for parenting your everyday child and managing a family.

Nonetheless, much of the advice/strategies were not applicative to our situation...a child diagnosed with ADHD will not answer/change based on these data. It did aid me to study our child and our parenting styles and brainstorm to clarify our own detail needs as a family.

In this book Dr Phil tells you how to heighten a phenomenal family. And guess what? It's not going to be like shooting fish in a barrel. If you are committed, yous tin do it. Even if your family is in a mess right at present he tells you how to gear up it directly. Merely I take to wonder how many are prepared to put in the necessary work.

Read this book earlier you decide to have a family. If it doesn't put y'all off then go ahead.

liked the ideas presented but some of them are more than ethics than practical ideas. still, i call back if all parents wold read it, at to the lowest degree they would have more tools for parenting and possibly we would have a generation of children who abound upwardly more balanced and socially adept.
